Tea Station - Hot Milk Tea w/ Taro Balls

Score: 10 out of 10 Mira Mesa does milk tea. With at least 3-4 well known Boba Shops and a plethora of Asian restaurants/delis who have it on their menu, tea + milk + tapioca balls is some kind of staple here. The same could be said about the greater San Diego area. But we're talking about Mira Mesa. And we're talking about Tea Station. Now it's not my first choice for Milk Tea (See my Tapioca Heaven Review Here) but if you want to sit down for a decent amount of time and savor a cuppa tea in the late evening, Tea Station is probably your only choice. Dining in is highly recommended because the teas you want will be served in ceramic or glass containers that beg you to sit down and discuss whatever you please. The standard image of a Boba Shop is the clear plastic cup with the graphic emblazoned vacu-sealed top, and the brightly colored boba straw that pokes through.

While you can get your drink "to-go" in such a fashion, eating in is a great excuse to have your drink in a quaint teapot or Asian ceramic bowl. They also offer plenty of snacks to munch on, but I'm not really discussing the snacks. I'm here to review my "go-to" beverage. Hot Milk Tea It's warm, creamy and not too sweet. It's a perfect nightcap without much to regret. Generally I would get it with boba (the tapioca balls tend to soften even more and have a gooey gooshiness to it that's perfect with hot milk tea) but this evening I decided to get mine with some taro dumplings (unique to Tea Station). Hands down it was quite good. With something as subtle a flavor as taro dough balls, the tea could've stood to have more sweetness, but nonetheless it was still an excellent combination. You eat the taro balls with a soup spoon and enjoy the doughy chewiness while they sit in a ladle of milk tea, then you kindly get your straw and dispatch the remaining liquid. A tasty and consistent treat, highly recommended for those whose flavor palette appreciates it.
